Here are 5 frugal Ways to Save Money on Laundry Expenses for your family. They include useful tips for reducing the cost per load and utilizing your washer.

Did you know that laundry costs a lot of money in your monthly budget?  These Ways to Save Money on Laundry Expenses are just what you need to really start cutting costs.  Your household budget will thank you for focusing more on these money-saving tips while washing your family’s clothes.

Ways to Save Money on Laundry Expenses

Try to reduce the cost per load. In order to reduce the cost of your laundry, you most likely want to focus on what the cost per load is. This cost can go down based on how much you spend on your laundry detergent. Also, using hot water can drive up the total cost per load. Try and figure out your cost per load before you do anything else.

Get the cost of your detergent down. Just as I mentioned above, if you want to reduce the cost of your laundry, then you need to get the cost of your detergent down. Whether that means making your own or finding laundry detergent on sale, both can help reduce the cost of your laundry. This homemade laundry soap recipe is a perfect way to save some money on each load.  Using Amazon Subscribe and Save for my favorite brands is another great way to save money on your laundry.

Use cold water only. Contrary to popular belief, washing your clothes in cold water won’t ruin them. Hot water costs a ton of money to produce. Using cold water can really cut the cost of your laundry in half. Even if you only wash half of your laundry in cold water, you’re still saving a ton of money.  Many families reserve hot water just for things like towels.

Utilize the size of your washer. If you’re going to do laundry, do it right. Don’t stick 1-2 things in the washer, fill it up! I try not to leave any space in my washer because every load I do is costing me money. If I need to wash one thing, I simply hand wash it. Doesn’t make sense to use gallons of water on just one item.  In the process, make sure to not overload your laundry.  You can easily waste money in overloading because clothing doesn’t get clean.

Do the small things. Just like with anything else, the small things really add up. Cleaning out the lint trap is one small thing that really adds up over time. Don’t keep washing the same load of clothing and don’t over dry the clothing in the dryer. Doing these small things will help you reduce the cost of your laundry.

Reducing the cost of your laundry doesn’t have to be mind boggling. Take the time to execute these steps and you will be good to go. It’s all about these easy ways to save money that makes your laundry expenses go down in no time.

I wash on cold only, only dry for about 10 minutes and then hang them (except whites). I buy my detergent on Black Friday. I got a years supply for 18.00. My daughter laughs at me, as I am the only one she knows that buys detergent on black Friday.

I only wash my clothes in cold water. My fiance thinks it won’t make a big difference but it really does make a big impact.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
