Slow Cooker Baby Food Recipe: Apple Raisin Oats.

Mornings are a little chilly around my house lately, so I wanted to come up with something warm and yummy my 7 month old could enjoy for breakfast. These Apple Raisin Oats are the perfect addition to his early breakfast foods. The slow cooker makes them a breeze to throw together, and I can hardly make up a new batch fast enough before they’re completely gone.

What I really like about this recipe is that the oats are naturally sweetened by the apples and raisins. With the arrival of two bottom teeth and an increasing appetite, my little guy seems to like that these oats give him something more to chomp in his mouth. The recipe yields a thick puree, so I wouldn’t recommend serving it to little ones just starting out on baby food.

2. Once apples have cooked down to an applesauce appearance add the oats, raisins, and another ½ cup of water. Mix well.

3. Continue on low for another hour. You will notice the raisins begin to swell.

4. Add the mixture to a blender and pulse a few times to further puree the oats and raisins.

5. Serve or store immediately.

This recipe for Apple Raisin Oats makes 3 cups. One simple way you can store these oats is by transferring them to ice trays and freezing. When you’re ready to serve just pop out a cube or two and thaw!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
