Swiss chard is one of those veggies that some people are a little hesitant to use. I don’t know why. It isn’t that difficult to cook and lends itself to many dishes quite easily. Plus, who can resist the rainbow of colors each Swiss chard’s stem has? It is actually quite easy to use. You can use the leaves in place of spinach or kale in recipes and the stems can be sliced like celery and added to a variety of dishes.
If you happen to grow Swiss Chard or you got it on sale because it is in season, you may be wondering what to do with it and how best to preserve it. Here are some tips on how to preserve it as well as 10 amazing Swiss chard recipes to create.
How to Freeze Swiss Chard Leaves
To freeze Swiss chard for easy use later on, you must blanch it. First, cut the stems off and set them aside. They can be used in one of the recipes below or you can freeze them separately to use in smoothies. Blanch the leaves for 2-3 minutes in hot water and quickly submerge it into ice cold water. Squeeze out the water and place it into dish sized-servings on a baking sheet in your freezer. This will act like a flash freezer. When they are solid, place them in bags and put back into the freezer
