If you are looking for something a little different this Chocolate-Covered Christmas Pretzel Rods Recipe is great for your dessert table, a little something different on your cookie platters, or as a “bouquet” in a coffee mug for a teacher, friends, and neighbors.

All you need to create them are some pretzel rods, almond bark or chocolate chips, and festive sprinkles or crushed candy canes. This is a great Christmas dessert to make with the kids as it is a very forgiving recipe, there is no baking involved, and you can even melt the chocolate in the microwave instead of melting it in a double boiler if you wish.

Chocolate-Covered Christmas Pretzel Rods Recipe

Get creative with these Christmas Pretzel Rods! You can use white chocolate, milk chocolate, or semi-sweet chocolate to coat your pretzel rods. You can add stripes of chocolate using red candy melts or green candy melts. Add a variety of Christmas sprinkles, or red or green sugar crystals. You can also crush hard candies and candy canes to sprinkle over the melted chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • Pretzel rods
  • Light Cocoa candy melts, milk chocolate morsels, or chocolate almond bark
  • White candy coating, white chocolate morsels, or vanilla almond bark
  • Green candy coating
  • Red candy coating

Assorted sprinkles:

  • Confetti Holly Mix
  • Red, Green, and White Nonpareils
  • Wilton Christmas Snowflake Sprinkles
  • crushed peppermints or candy canes

Directions:

  1. Melt the candy coating according to package directions giving special care not to overheat the candy. If the candy coating is overheated, it will be too thick. You can add 2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening to help thin the candy but do not add any other type of liquid as the candy will seize and harden.
  2. Pour candy coating over two-thirds of the pretzel rod and shake gently to remove excess. If applying sprinkles, do so immediately rotating the pretzel rods to coat all sides. Larger sprinkles work best if placed individually.christmas pretzel rods recipe
  3. Place pretzel rod on waxed paper or cooling rack. (Cook’s notes: Waxed paper makes for easier release.)christmas pretzel rods on wax paper
  4. If drizzling with additional colored candy melts, allow initial candy coating to set completely. Then, use a spoon or fork to drizzle candy coating over the pretzel rods. Before the pretzel sets, gently pick it up and move to clean wax paper.
  5. Let pretzel rods dry completely before packaging or serving.

How to Store Chocolate-Dipped Pretzel Rods

Store the pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature. Do not place them in the refrigerator, as it may cause the pretzels to soften.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
