These simple Rudolph Sugar Cookies are made with a gingerbread man cookie cutter! You just turn the gingerbread cookie upside down and you have a reindeer cookie! It’s an easy cookie recipe to bake and decorate this Christmas.

Decorating a fresh batch of sugar cookies is a must during the Christmas season. There are so many fun ways to decorate them. My kids are big fans of dumping oodles and oodles of sprinkles and frosting galore on their sugar cookies. If you’re looking for a Christmas cookie idea with a little more technique and design, try these Rudolph Sugar Cookies.

These cookies are simple to make and decorate. Simply use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to cut out the shape. Once cooled, you just flip the cookies upside down to decorate them. You can make a simple reindeer cookie or make Rudolph and his bright red nose! How clever is that? Grab your ingredients, these cookies are sure to be a hit this Christmas!

Rudolph Sugar Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups softened salted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • gingerbread man cookie cutter
  • brown decorating cupcake icing
  • red chocolate-coated candies
  • small candy eyes
  • white shimmer sugar sprinkles

Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 325° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease with non-stick cooking spray.
2. Beat your softened butter and sugar together.
3. Now mix in your almond extract, vanilla extract, and egg.
4. Mix in your flour one cup at a time until you have a thick dough.

5. Knead the dough in your hands.
6. Lay out a piece of parchment paper, flour the surface, and roll your dough out (keep a little thick).

7. Use  your cookie cutter to cut your gingerbread men and place them on your baking sheet. You can keep them fairly close together as they should not spread.

8. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
9. Let cool and turn your cookies upside down to decorate.
10. Dab a small amount of frosting onto the back of your candy eyes and red coated chocolate candies. Stick them onto the round part of the cookie as pictured.

11. Now use your brown frosting to draw on antlers.
12. Sprinkle the antlers with your shimmer sugar and enjoy!

    What a neat idea! We have a reindeer cookie cutter, but the antlers part is so narrow that that part of the cookie often breaks off. This looks like a much better method!
