This Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipe produce crisp sugar cookies with a delicious flavor! The dough is easy to roll out and it holds the shapes well for cut outs.

I have tried a lot of Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipes over the years, attempting to find the perfect flavor and a dough that is easy to work with.  This recipe for sugar cookies is wonderful.  The cookies are crisp, but not hard and the flavor is wonderful!  The dough is easy to roll out and it holds the shapes well for cut outs.  I know you’ll love it too!

Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, unsalted at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs at room temperature
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla
  • 1 tsp lemon extract
  • 3 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions:

Mix together the butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and lemon extract in the bowl of a stand mixer.  The ingredients should be creamed together.

In another bowl sift together the dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.  Gradually add this to the butter mixture.

Divide dough into half.  Flatten each half into a 2” thick disc and wrap in plastic wrap.  Refrigerate for 1-2 hours.

Preheat oven to 400 Degrees.

Use a silicone rolling pin to roll dough out to approximately ¼” thickness.  This works best on a well floured surface, parchment paper, or bakers mat.  Cut dough into desired shapes and place them on ungreased cookie sheets, leaving 1-2 inches between.

Bake for 4-6 minutes in preheated oven.  Allow to cool for 3-5 minutes then transfer to wire cooling rack to cool completely.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
