Gluten Free Strawberry Kiwi Muffins

Gluten-Free Strawberry Kiwi Muffins

May 5, 2010 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

This Gluten-Free Strawberry Kiwi Muffins recipe is a spring favorite in my home! These muffins are not as healthy as some of my other muffin recipes, but they are oh, so good! My oldest son refers to them as exotic breakfast food.  My daughter calls them ugly cupcakes. I like my son’s description better. However,Read More

Baking with Brown Rice Syrup and Gluten-Free German Chocolate Cake

May 4, 2010 by Alea Milham Leave a Comment

This is my husband’s favorite cake of all time! This is the recipe that he repeatedly requests. And when I say repeatedly, I mean over and over and over again. The cake is very moist, has a distinct chocolate flavor, but is not overly sweet. I used a combination of honey and brown rice syrupRead More

Gluten-Free Carrot Oatmeal Muffins

April 6, 2010 by Alea Milham Leave a Comment

I often find inspiration for my recipes from regular bakers. These muffins are no exception; they were inspired by The Best Ever Muffins by Loving My Domestic Life.  I  replaced the flour with gluten-free flours, substituted brown rice syrup for the sugar, and removed the oil. Then I added grated carrots, some more spices, and chopped pecans.Read More

Gluten-Free Oatmeal Scotchies

March 30, 2010 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

I almost didn’t share this recipe with you. I tasted it about 15 minutes after it came out of the oven and I wasn’t crazy about it or its appearance. My kids liked it; my daughter even went so far as to say she preferred it to regular oatmeal scotchies, but she prefers “wholesome snacks”,Read More

Gluten Free Tomato Soup Cake

March 29, 2010 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

First let me say, this cake tastes much better than it sounds! This recipe originated in the late 1920s or early 1930s. It was enormously popular throughout the depression as it is made without using eggs or butter.  It was sometimes called Mystery Cake and a game was made of making first-time eaters guess theRead More

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
