Do you need a little help waking up earlier? These 5 Tips for Not Hitting the Snooze Button in the Morning will make it easier to start your day early.

Getting up early is amazing when you finally are able to do it. Not only will you be able to get more done during the day, but you will find that starting your day earlier can lead to a feeling that leaves you less rushed and oddly enough, in a better mood throughout your day. If you are not a morning person, it can seem like getting up earlier is almost a joke, but it becomes easier. As you begin to see the benefits you will find it may even turn you into an early bird after all! If you need a little help getting up earlier, here are 5 Tips for Not Hitting the Snooze Button in the Morning.

5 Tips for Not Hitting the Snooze Button in the Morning

Go to bed earlier every night until you feel mostly rested when your alarm goes off. You would be amazed at what an extra 10 minutes of sleep can do when it’s implemented at bedtime rather than snooze alarm. Start going to bed 10 minutes earlier than you normally do every night until you feel more rested when the alarm goes off in the morning. You don’t have to be a ball of sunshine, but at least feel like you can just get up.

Practice good sleep hygiene. Sleep hygiene is the idea that you create a way for your body to use it’s natural sleep cycle. It’s about creating routines that help you wind down before bed as the evening goes on. It’s also about helping you not disrupt your own sleep as well during the day. Check out this article from The Sleep Foundation on How to Practice Good Sleep Hygiene.

Place your alarm across from you. Make it physically harder for you to hit the snooze button. If you need to, place your alarm somewhere that requires you to physically get out of bed to shut it off. Make sure it’s very loud and annoying so you don’t have a choice but to shut it off. Make sure to switch the alarm sound you use every month, too. That way you won’t get used to it and it will be harder to ignore.

Wake up slowly in other ways. Rather than hitting the snooze button to go back to sleep, set it for another reason; to ‘play’ in the morning and wake up slowly. Have a book handy or even a game on your phone you enjoy playing handy and wake up and play it or read. This allows your brain to wake up slowly and also stimulates it.

Get your coffee habit started early. Those coffee makers with timers are a real blessing to those that need to drink coffee in the morning to get going. The smell of coffee can actually wake you up, so set your coffee maker to start brewing just before your alarm goes off every morning so you know you have it ready as soon as your feet hit the floor.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
