Amanda is sharing tips for getting the most out of your gym membership:
5 Ways to Get More from Your Gym Membership

Are you one of the thousands (millions?) who have purchased a gym membership recently in hopes of getting in better shape this year? It’s no secret that for many people who have a gym membership, it largely goes unused. About 67% of people with memberships do not actually use them. With the cost of membership averaging $55 a month, that’s a lot of wasted money! Here are 10 ways to make sure you get the most out of your membership in 2014.

5 Ways to Get More from Your Gym Membership

Use the Amenities

A lot of bigger gyms offer amenities such as a Jacuzzi, sauna, and/or swimming pool. Use them! On days when you can’t get outside with your kids, why not bring them to the gym for some free swimming? Stressed out? Take a break, head to the gym and sit in the Jacuzzi or sauna!

Free Training Sessions

Another membership perk may be the offering of free personal training classes or weight machine instruction sessions. If the reason you’re not using your membership is that it’s all still a bit intimidating, use the resources that are provided to learn more about the equipment and gain some confidence.

Kids Gym

How many times do you have “one of those days,” when you’re ready to pull your hair out and the kids are bouncing around the house? Many gyms offer kids classes and/or drop in babysitting while you use the facilities. Consider taking a time out and bring the kids in. You can work out, or sit in the sauna while the kids burn off some energy under someone else’s watch. While this is free in some facilities, it may be a small, additional charge at others.

Fitness Classes

Typically offered as a part of your membership, fitness classes provide a group environment and opportunity to try something new without an additional investment. Classes such as yoga, pilates, kickboxing and Zumba are popular offerings. Some gyms have additional programming such as boot camps or other challenges that may be an additional, though generally small fee.

Use Online Resources

If you aren’t very good at making up your own workout routine, or simply aren’t sure where to start many gyms offer an online portal that can be customized to your body composition and needs. It will give you a workout to complete for each day you’re ready to hit the gym. If you’re ever unsure of what a specific exercise is, the staff are trained and more than willing to help you.

Paying for a gym membership is a big investment, you want to make sure that you take advantage of every benefit offered as a part of your membership fee!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
