Have you ever looked at your closet and wondered how you accumulated so much? This usually makes us take action and start cleaning it out by taking an honest look at what we own and what we no longer want. Purging your clothes can lead to a lot of organizational satisfaction, but it can also lead to extra money coming it, too! There are lots of ways to make money selling used clothes, thankfully. Don’t let all that money you spent on your clothing go to waste with these 6 places to sell your used clothes for cash.

6 Places to Sell Your Used Clothes for Cash

On Craigslist – The popular thing to do on Craigslist is to sell clothing items in ‘lots’. This is a great way to get rid of clothes that may not be high end, but are still in good condition. Just bundle them up and sell them as one lot. Many people do this with children’s clothing based on size. Just be careful to always meet in public places to exchange items and money. Some communities even offer to let you do it at the police station as an added security.

On Facebook – Facebook now has a marketplace that allows people to sell locally to others in a similar fashion to Craigslist. It is located under the middle icon on your Facebook profile that looks like a little store. You can list items and message people directly through Facebook should they have any questions. Like with Craigslist, only agree to meet in public places and not at your home.

In consignment shops, locally– If you have some higher end or mall style clothing brands consignment shops can be the way to go. Many no longer even do traditional consignment where you have to wait until the item sells to get paid. These stores just pay right on the spot now and some even offer a higher amount of you take credit instead of cash. Here are some more tips on using consignment shops.

On websites for buying and selling clothing – With the web, there are so many places you can sell your used clothing that it just depends on how you want to do it. ThreadUP allows you to sell by sending in your items and they inspect them, sell them, and ship them or you can sell on a site like Poshmark and do your own shipping and selling.

At Swap meets or Yard sales – This is certainly one of the most time-consuming ways to sell, but you might get lucky and sell your items for less hassle and potentially more money as well in a shorter period of time. Here are some tips for holding a successful yard sale.

On eBay – The classic auction website has changed over the years, so if you haven’t been on it for a while, you may not know about the ‘buy it now’ option. This allows the seller to set a price you want for it and allows buyers to skip bidding and just buy something outright. This is a good option for many people to sell their higher end items.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
