7 Frugal Ways to Enjoy the 4th of July

With the 4th of July quickly approaching, you may be wondering how you can best spend this festive weekend. Take a look below at 7 frugal ways to enjoy Independence Day without blowing your budget. The good news is, there are so many options, many of which are free or close to. Take a look below at some ideas to get you started.

7 Frugal Ways to Enjoy the 4th of July

1. Take in a free concert.
Touch base with your local parks department to see what free concerts may be offered in your area. Parks and recreation centers often bring in free shows for the community during this busy weekend. This is a great way to relax, unwind, and listen to some great music without spending a dime.

2. Find some free fireworks.
Buying your own fireworks can be pricey, so instead look for a free display being offered. See if any local organizations are putting on free fireworks shows for you to watch. Even if you can’t find a free one, find an inexpensive sporting event where free fireworks are being offered after.

3. Enjoy a beach picnic.
Pack some sandwiches and head to the beach for a picnic. If you don’t have a local beach, find a state park or local lake. Take in the scenery, enjoy a game of cards, and eat a tasty picnic. This is a great way to spend an afternoon and hardly costs anything at all.

4. Host a neighborhood parade.
Gather the kids in the neighborhood and have them decorate their bikes with streamers and silly string. Have an adult start the parade line with a car, playing music for all to hear. Have the children line up on their bikes and parade down the neighborhood streets in a line, showing off their dressed up rides.

5. Tidy up your town.
Pick a public area that can use some TLC. An old cemetery, park, or other common areas are all perfect for this task. Collect trash, pull weeds, and just do some basic sprucing. Show your community you care!

6. Make your own hand print flag.
Take a piece of poster board as well as some red and blue craft paint. Apply paint to your hands and press them to the board to create an American flag. For example, put red paint on your hands to create stripes, and blue paint on your hands to create stars. Finger painting your own American is messy, but it sure is fun.

7. Have a water war.
Haul out the water balloons, hose, kiddie pool, and sprinkler. Have an all out water war. Even if you don’t have an inground pool, these supplies can help you have the ultimate water fight! Get the whole family on board. When the bell sounds, let the water fly!

See how easy it can be to enjoy Independence Day for less? Give these tips a try!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
