Plan a fun summer date night with a Summer BBQ For Two Picnic Idea

BBQ For Two: Frugal Summer Table Decor Idea

Oh, it’s almost summer time. With summer comes sandals, warm weather, late nights out under the stars, and cookouts.

And yes, the food is always on fire during the summer (pun intended). I’m a huge fan of grilling as much as possible during our short summer months. Living here in Michigan means we have to take advantage of our outdoor time as often as possible.

Summers here in Michigan are absolutely beautiful. Driving up North for a short weekend getaway, going camping, the Tulip Festival, the Cherry Festival, etc is what we’re known for here in the Mitten.

However, let’s get back to the food. Grilling is a great way to enjoy food, family and fun times.  I like to be frugally thoughtful when putting together a cookout. Katie gave great tips in how to save money on cookouts, so check those out for more ways to save!

Most people just pull out the paper products for a quick and easy cookout. And that’s totally okay. However, if you want to step up your game, or maybe you want to create a romantic dinner for two or picnic date, then I have a great way for you to do just that!

A BBQ Date for Two was inspired by two plates I recently nabbed at Home Goods. {just $12.99 each}

Summer Picnic Plates Table Setting

These plates are HUGE and can also be used as serving platters. Just think of all the ribs, mac & cheese and corn these plates will hold! 🙂

Here’s how to assemble your BBQ for two table setting!

We always start with the centerpiece. For this idea, I decided to take two clear vases that I have and wrapped them in fancy red & white wrapping paper. You guys know how much I love wrapping paper, right? It’s such a great way to decorate vases, use for table runners, and more!

How to Reuse your vase for a new decoration

Roll out your wrapping paper and size it to the width of your vase.

Then cut and fold the wrapping paper in half.

Wrapping a Vase with Wrapping Paper

Wrap the wrapping paper around the vase. On one side, tape the wrapping paper to the vase.

I like to use tape because you can easily peel it off once you’re done with this design.

How To Use Wrapping Paper On A Vase

Once the vase is ready, I decided to do something fun and spunky with this vase vs putting flowers in it.

I love centerpieces that are integrated into the party. With this centerpiece, I put Patriotic Hats, along with fun necklaces on top of the vase. You and your guest(s) can easily wear these items, and the vase will still have use. {all items purchased at my local dollar store}

Tip: If you’re planning an outdoor party, you can put Citronella Candles inside the vases to help ward off bugs!
Fun Patriotic Theme for Two

Always be sure to add a variety of glasses to your table setting. Some of your guests may prefer a beer over a cocktail, or maybe even plain water. I picked up the patriotic umbrellas from the Dollar Store. If you can’t find them at your local store, you can order a set HERE.

Memorial Day Glass Look

Since you’re having a BBQ for two, add a few fun games to help ease the conversation (especially if this is a first date idea). One of my favorite games at the dinner table is the wooden peg game.

You can also add more fun patriotic items like glasses, napkins, and even patriotic paper plates. All these items I picked up at my local dollar store. Seriously, a cheap idea for a fun and FAB table setting.

If you don’t want to use this for a BBQ for two idea, you can always add more plates, glasses and silverware to expand this table setting to a backyard BBQ or 4th of July Party.

Fun BBQ Picnic Idea for Two

Regardless of who you decide to have this BBQ with, this table decor idea will help bring it all together and give your party life!

So tell me, when’s the last time you planned an outdoor party, picnic date or a just for fun BBQ?

Leave me a comment below and let me know!

Until next time,

Tatanisha

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
