Lemongrass and Grapefruit Dishwasher Detergent- This homemade detergent cleans dishes and leaves a beautiful shine with no build-up. It smells fresh too!

I really enjoy creating my own home cleaning products for a variety of reason. First, I can have confidence in what ingredients are being used, they are generally less expensive than the store bought counterparts, and  I can customize the scent. I have tried several variations of homemade dishwasher detergents from tablets to liquid. This powder used with vinegar in the rinse compartment is by far my favorite for its effectiveness and fresh scent.  You can of course use any combination of essential oils that you want. Some of my favorites are peppermint, orange or lemon, tea tree, and  lavender.  All of these essential oils also add sanitizing and disinfecting properties to your homemade dishwasher detergent.

Have you used this without the vinegar in the rinse compartment? I stopped using vinegar when I read it can corrode the plastic and rubber parts over time.

I heard if you put vinegar in a small cup on the top rack it works just as good without the worry of corrosion

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
