How to Reduce Moisture in the Bathroom

June 19, 2013 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

Rodney is sharing 9 tips for reducing moisture in the bathroom. As I sat in my recliner this past weekend, I heard my wife Julie telling my twin girls to shut the toilet lid when they went to flush the toilet. This raised my “what in the world is she talking about” radar and IRead More

Naturally Frugal Tip: Make Your Own Body Wash

June 14, 2013 by Alea Milham 10 Comments

I prefer body wash over bar soap – it just doesn’t leave nearly as much soap scum in the bath tub and shower. That convenience comes at a price though. Body wash is more expensive than bar soap, especially if you are looking for a chemical-free, gluten-free body wash. My youngest son and I bothRead More

June 7, 2013 by Alea Milham 2 Comments

When I ride my horse I always wear my helmet. Always! That’s when I use Dry Shampoo. It absorbs the oils and actuallyRead More

June 2, 2013 by Alea Milham Leave a Comment

My son still fits his winter clothes, but the day time temperatures are in the eighties. I realized if I cut off the mock under sleeve, I could greatly increase my son’s summerRead More

How to Make Your Own Toothpaste

How to Make Your Own Toothpaste

May 31, 2013 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

I have mentioned before that I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. People with under-active thyroids are often encouraged to avoid fluoride. Our water supply is not fluoridated, so my main source of exposure to fluoride is toothpaste. I have bought unfluoridated toothpaste for years, but finally decided to try my hand at making it. Have you everRead More

How to Kill Ants

May 13, 2013 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

I try to use natural methods to kill ants, especially they are in location near my children and pets. My first line of defense is soapy water using Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Castile Soap. I put it in a spray bottle and squirt any ants I see. This temporarily disables the ants making them easier toRead More

Homemade Sunscreen Recipes

May 10, 2013 by Alea Milham Leave a Comment

I try to be very careful about what I put on my kid’s skin. I prefer to use clothing and hats to provide protection from the sun, but that is not always enough. With ever-changing guidelines about what sunscreen ingredients are safe, it just seems easier to me to make homemade sunscreen rather than tryingRead More

Naturally Frugal Tip: How to Cut Kid’s Hair At Home

May 3, 2013 by Alea Milham 2 Comments

For some reason none of my kids liked getting their hair cut in a shop when they were young. That is an understatement. They all hated it! At first I tried to reason with them and find ways to make it appealing, but I was unsuccessful. Even bribes didn’t work. Then I realized that cuttingRead More

April 12, 2013 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

I have been using the same pans since 1994. Yes, they are old and scruffy, but we rub along well together. Last year I decided I needed to expand my pot and pan collection to get a few specialty pans (read single use and fairly expensive). Did specialty pans improve my recipes? Not really, inRead More

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
