Spring Frugal Family Fun - tips for how to save money on spring break with your family, frugal spring family activities and cheap family fun.

Most families look forward to Spring for a number of reasons, one of them being spring break! The perfect time of year to take that lavish family vacation to the beach or Disney World. Well I don’t know about you but “lavish vacations” is not a phrase that’s in my vocabulary right now. I’m thinking more along the lines of some frugal spring family fun. The word frugal is definitely in my vocabulary and I’m going to share some tips that will help your family have some frugal fun this spring.

Skip the Amusement Parks – Don’t get me wrong, I love going to amusement parks but with three kids it gets a little pricey. Now add spring into the mix and the prices seem to go up even higher than normal. Gas prices go up, hotel rates go up and just about everything else. Save your money and frustration and skip the amusement parks this spring. Instead head on over to local amusement attractions!

Local amusement attractions can provide a great source of spring frugal family fun. Miniature golfing parks, laser tag, batting cages, bumper cars are some of the activities you can enjoy with the family at a local attraction. You’ll save money on gas, admission and hotel rates. Not to mention you won’t have to stand in line for two hours just to get on one ride!

Enjoy a Staycation – People often get caught up in over-the-top vacations to Hawaii, resort towns, the Caribbean and other expensive destinations. I’m sure all of these destinations are absolutely gorgeous but they aren’t always obtainable without going into some serious debt. We can get so caught up day dreaming about our dream vacation that we forget about what’s right in front of us. Research the area you live in as if you were a tourist and you might be surprised at some of local attractions you’ve been missing out on. This spring use these tips to plan a staycation and make it a point to get to know your town and surrounding areas.

Visit a State Park – State Park’s provide the perfect vacation spot for families! The admission and camping rates inside of state parks are typically very affordable and you’ll probably be surrounded by other families instead of the out of control college spring break crowds. At a state park you’ll get to enjoy nature, quiet and the chance to really bond as a family. In today’s technological age it’s nice to sometimes get away from the hustle and bustle, turn off the electronics and just get to know your family again.

Skip the Beach – I honestly don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t like the beach. Personally, I love the beach! But I don’t love the beach during spring or spring break. Most beach towns tend to get very crowded and like amusement parks, the rates start to go up. Not to mention the weather during spring isn’t always beach friendly!  My family has always enjoyed going to the lake during spring as we have found there to be less crowds, much more affordable and the weather always tends to be a little nicer.

Visit the Lake – Research lakes within driving distance to the area you live in and make it a point to take a lake trip with the family. Don’t forget to pick up some rafts, inner tubes, sand toys and some hot dogs for the bar-b-que. Lake trips can really be a wonderful family tradition and a nice way to make some memories with your family.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
