How To Workout On A Budget Health is extremely important, and not just physical health. Mental health is important as well. Stressing about bills is extremely common in today’s economy, and while it’s nice to have a gym membership, it definitely isn’t required for physical health. Remember that paying for convenience is a big additive to costs! There are plenty of great options for working out that cost much, much less than a gym membership, and even some that are free! If you’re struggling to make ends meet but don’t want to add the cost of a gym membership to worry about, try these great budget-friendly workout options.

How To Workout On A Budget

1. YouTube videos. YouTube videos are FREE! What’s great is that if you have a laptop or even a smart phone, you can quickly pull up almost any kind of workout and do it right inside the comfort of your own home. Free fits into any budget! You could even do a simple yoga video on YouTube to stretch your muscles and get a nice, good workout in. Yoga mats are very easy to fit in a budget!

2. Workout DVDs from Amazon. There are some really great affordable workout DVDs on Amazon. You could buy one or two and just use them continuously to tone up and lose weight. You could even rotate between YouTube videos and workout DVDs so you don’t get bored! Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred is a great workout with a 30-day program that changes every 10 days to keep you from getting bored and is very affordable!

3. Park workouts. Park or outdoor workouts are very easy to incorporate in your schedule. They’re also free, so you can’t beat that! Things that are normally included in park workouts are: running/jogging, pushups, burpees, jumping jacks, squats, lunges, and ab moves. Those things are all free. However, you could make your own sandbags to use for throwing and running, use a tractor tire to do tire flips, make an agility ladder out of paint sticks and duct tape, or even use jump ropes. Those things are all very cheap, easy to make, and tractor tires can be found on yard sale sites or Craigslist!

4. Go hiking. Hiking is an excellent workout and usually free. Some places do charge for parking, but some places are completely free to hike. It’s a great cardio blast and usually pretty fun too, especially if you enjoy the outdoors and nature.

5. Swimming. Swimming is one of the best workout options there is! It might not always feel like you’ve really worked out much while you’re doing it, but it’s great for your body. This is also a really great option for those with injuries, because the water allows you to move freely without much resistance, and you can stretch and move the part of your body that might be injured!

All of these are really great workouts that you can do on a budget, without having to worry about adding extra costs. Some minimal equipment might be in order for some of these, but all of them are relatively cheap and some you can even find used or make yourself! So what’s your excuse? Get out there and get healthy, mind and body!

I love to run, and although I confess I’ve spent a fair bit on shoes and gear, at least it’s then free each time I choose to do it. Some fitness stores, like RoadRunner Sports, Athleta and Sports Basement offer free classes too. Obviously you want supportive workout shoes, but for other fitness gear, I find the prices at Target and Old Navy much more reasonable than the famous sports brands.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
