Savory Apple Pizza- This recipe is a great savory way to use fresh apples this fall. Load it with ham and Havarti cheese and serve as a dinner or appetizer.

Apples are one of my favorite fall flavors and I especially love to make recipes that are more savory with apples like this Savory Apple Pizza.  The apples are caramelized with onion and paired with black forest ham for a sweet and salty combination.  It makes a great dinner or appetizer!

Savory Apple Pizza

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium apples (I like Gala)
  • 1 medium sweet onion
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 5 or 6 thin slices black forest ham
  • Havarti cheese
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic infused vinegar
  • salt, pepper, and garlic salt to taste
  • 1 premade pizza crust (I used a gluten free version)
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

2. Slice the apples into 1/4″ thick wedges and onion into very thin slices.

3. In a small skillet, heat the butter until melted.  Saute the apples and onions in the butter until they begin to caramelize.

4. Lightly coat the pizza crust with olive oil on both sides and place on a nonstick baking sheet.

5. Mix the applesauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, and garlic salt together and pour over the pizza crust.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
