These Snickers-inspired caramel apples are dipped in caramel, then chocolate, then rolled in chopped peanuts.
Forget traditional simple caramel covered apples and candied apples this fall. This gourmet caramel apple is inspired by one of the most popular candy bars on the shelves: Snickers. Crisp and tart golden delicious apple meets sweet caramel, rich chocolate, and salty peanuts in a delicious treat that takes tradition up a few notches.
These tasty homemade caramel apples are wonderful wrapped up and passed out to neighbors, teachers, friends, and family for a sweet fall treat. After wrapping them in plastic, just add a small handmade tag.
Snickers-Inspired Caramel Apples Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6 apples
- 1-14 ounce package caramels, unwrapped
- 1-11.5 ounce package chocolate chips
- peanuts
- wooden skewers
- paper straws
Directions:
Crush peanuts in a processor or in a sealable plastic baggy. Set aside.
Lay the wax or parchment paper flat on the counter to dry your apples on.
Wash apples very well to remove wax and any other residue that may be on them, dry thoroughly with a clean cloth.
Remove stems, cut skewers in half or thirds and push a skewer into the center of apple about 3″ into the core.
Place caramels in a pan over medium heat and melt according to package directions- for me this was to add 2 Tbsp. of water to caramels and stir constantly while melting.
Dip apple into the caramel, use a spoon to help cover apple well.
Place apples upright on waxed paper to set.
While caramel is setting up place chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 20-30 second increments, stirring between each cycle until smooth and completely melted. Dip caramel apples in chocolate, using a spoon or spatula as necessary to cover apple about 3/4 of the way up.
Immediately after coating in the chocolate roll in peanuts to coat, and return to wax paper, allow the chocolate to harden.
These yummy Snickers-inspired caramel apples are the perfect fall treat!
