Mocha Fudge Frosting

August 13, 2012 by Alea Milham 23 Comments

This is my signature frosting. When someone in my family asks me to make my frosting, they are asking for my Mocha Fudge Frosting. I do not remember the source of the recipe though I think my mom shared it with me. The first time I clearly remember making it was the summer I wasRead More

Chai Spiced Frosting

August 6, 2012 by Alea Milham 15 Comments

I was asked to make cupcakes for a party we attended last weekend. My daughter walked in as I was baking andRead More

This peanut butter bark with pretzels recipe is a quick and easy way to make homemade candy! Mocha Fudge Bundt Cake with Mocha Fudge Glaze

March 4, 2012 by Alea Milham 5 Comments

Occasionally, when life is really busy, or just plain crazy, I cheat and doctor a cake mix rather than cook from scratch. I would rather have company over and serve them an easy dessert, rather than not entertain at all. When the cake mix brand that I like goes on sale, I will buy aRead More

Dairy-Free “Butter Cream” Frosting

February 29, 2012 by Alea Milham 13 Comments

I have avoided making butter cream frosting since my oldest son’s reaction to dairy became more intense last year. For many years, he was fine as long as he took an enzyme pill before eating. Instead of getting better as he has gotten older, his reaction has gotten worse and he decided to adopt aRead More

It has been almost a month since I’ve shared a candy recipe. I love my Easy Peppermint Bark, but my husband’s favorite bark is this Cinnamon Bark.  It is as easy to make as the peppermint bark and actually comes together faster. You can add any type of nuts to the bark including candied nuts. It only takes a couple of minutes to melt the white chocolate and theRead More

Chocolate Pecan Pie with Pecan Crust

December 6, 2011 by Alea Milham 11 Comments

On Thanksgiving day, I broke my “don’t experiment on the day of a dinner party” rule.  I was getting ready to make my Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe when I decided that I didn’t feel like making a pie crust. First I tried to convince my daughter to make a pie crust for me, but she didn’tRead More

Homemade Turtle Fudge

November 27, 2011 by Alea Milham 10 Comments

This is a decadent variation on traditional chocolate fudge. This recipe make 4 1/2 pounds total, so it could easily be divided between 2 gift tins. I used my Easy Homemade Fudge Recipe as the base and then added melted caramels and pecans in the center and topped it with another layer of fudge. This recipeRead More

Cookies and Cream Fudge

November 2, 2011 by Alea Milham 9 Comments

My oldest son’s favorite flavor is cookies and cream. It doesn’t matter if it ice-cream, cake, or candy. I know that if cookies and cream is an option, it is the one he will take.  He might occasionally take a few minutes considering all of his options, but inevitably he will choose cookies and cream.Read More

July 26, 2011 by Alea Milham 3 Comments

This Decorating Icing recipe is an egg-free substitute for Royal Icing. It can easily be made diary-free as well. I would much rather bake a batch of cookies or a cake than decorate them! For that reason, I make use of what ever I can to help decorate baked goods including toys, hollyhock dolls, andRead More

Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free Shrewsbury Cakes

July 25, 2011 by Alea Milham 3 Comments

My daughter was a tomboy growing up. She preferred to be Robin Hood rather than Maid Marion. She would rather collect bugs than play dolls and the only reason she agreed to wear dresses is because it meant she only had to put on two articles of clothing in the morning. I was quite pleasedRead More

Two scoops of mixed berry sorbet

Mixed Berry Sorbet

July 14, 2011 by Alea Milham 3 Comments

Here is how to save money and improve on store-bought sorbet.  It takes a little time and effort, but the results are worth it. My husband loves sorbet, but have you ever checked out how expensive it is at the stores? It is usually about $3.79 for a pint at our local stores. For aRead More

Mocha Fudge Pudding

April 22, 2011 by Alea Milham 13 Comments

A couple weeks ago I made Chai Spiced Pudding which, as odd as it sounds, was a huge hit. I told my family that I was planning on experimenting with more pudding flavors and my daughter asked if I could try making mocha fudge pudding. As a college student she appreciates caffeinated desserts. 🙂 TodayRead More

Chai Spiced Pudding

April 8, 2011 by Alea Milham 5 Comments

This evening I had a wild idea to make Chai Spiced Pudding, the only problem was that until tonight I had only made two types of pudding: chocolate and chocolate.  I was a little leery of just removing the chocolate from my recipes because I wasn’t sure how much the cocoa or chocolate chips affectedRead More

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
