There are lots of ways to use popsicle sticks around your home and garden. Take a look at these 10 Frugal Uses for Popsicle Sticks to get started. Can you remember crafting with popsicle sticks as a kid? It seems as though they were a crafting staple in every household. Well you can still snag popsicle sticks at most craft stores, and you will find they are quite inexpensive. Next time you find a few, take a look below at these 10 frugal uses for popsicle sticks that you can try!

10 Frugal Uses for Popsicle Sticks

1. Make your own plant supports.

Popsicle sticks can be tied to the stems of small seedlings and plants to offer support while the plant grows. Just place in the soil next to the plant and tie with twine or string.

2. Make painting easier.

Popsicle sticks can be used to stir small portions of paint. You can also dip a stick in the paint for future reference should you need to buy more. Just write the name and brand of the paint on the back of the stick.

3. Make your own fire starters.

Dip the sticks in candle wax and let the wax harden. When you are ready to start the fire, light the stick and toss it into the fire pit! If you want to keep some attractive fire starters on hand, try making these fancy dryer lint fire starters.

4. Let kids make their own bookmarks.

Give kiddos some popsicle sticks and craft paint. Let them decorate the sticks and when they dry, use them for book marks. This would be a fun craft to do with a book club of kids or as a classroom project.

5. Make a chore jar.

Write the name of each chore on a popsicle stick. Place the sticks in a jar and let children reach in and pick one. The chore on the stick is the chore they need to complete. This is a fun way to pick chores and get kids excited about cleaning.

6. Label your herbs.

Write the names of your herb plants on a popsicle stick. Then, stick it in the soil directly next to the plant it identifies. It is an easy way to keep all of your herbs straight. Here are some more DIY garden marker ideas.

7. Make your own…popsicles!

Why not use the sticks as intended? Stick the popsicle sticks into a container of yogurt. You want to leave the foil lid on, and press the stick through the lid and into the yogurt. Freeze. Once the yogurt is solid, remove the foil lid and pull the frozen yogurt pop out. Here are some popsicle recipes to inspire you:

9. Level out a wobbly table.

A popsicle stick under a table leg or chair leg may be all it need to level it out. It is a great way to put a stop to the wobbling!

10. Add them to your fairy gardens.

You can paint the sticks and use them in your fairy gardens to create borders, walkways, fencing, even furniture. Their size makes them perfect for this task. Here are more ideas for creating a fairy garden.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
