7 Places to find inexpensive Halloween costumes

If you are in the market for a Halloween costume, but aren’t working with a great deal of funds, no worries. Take a look at 7 of the best places to find Halloween costumes, so you can snag the perfect one for less. You will be surprised when you see some of the places you can find costumes, and some are for next to nothing. Take a look!

The Best Places to Find Inexpensive Halloween Costumes

1. Thrift stores.
When I suggest thrift stores, I don’t just mean that you should shop the costume selection. Check out everything they have available. Scrubs make great doctor and nurse costumes, old prom dresses make the perfect princess outfit, and graduation robes make dazzling wizards and witches. Check out the hats, gloves, and other accessories that can help make the costume as well.

2. At your friend’s house.
If you have friends with children, chances are they have old costumes on hand, as do you. Why not get together and swap costumes? This is the perfect way to dress your child for next to nothing, plus get rid of some items you don’t need at the same time.

3. In your basement.
What clothing items have you stashed away that can be the perfect costume? Go through your own old clothing items and see how they can be revamped. Colorful sweat suits, ties, scarves, dresses, and more can all be made into various costumes. Clowns, gypsies, mummies, and zombies are all great costumes that you can make from altered everyday clothing.

4. The dollar store.
Dollar stores carry a great deal of accessories that can practically make an entire costume themselves. If you have a scrub top, pair it with a toy doctor’s kit. If you have a khaki outfit, pair it with a bug net and binoculars and be an explorer. Use a simple base outfit and then make it pop with dollar store fixings.

5.  Garage sales.
Always keep your eyes peeled for costumes at garage sales. Lots of people unload old costumes at their garage sales and if you are at the right place at the right time, you can snag one for cheap! Don’t forget to look for accessories too!

6. In the toy aisle.
All year long, some dresses up items are kept in the kid’s toy section. Don’t forget to look here when shopping. These items won’t be with the Halloween selection, but are available as dress up items all year and at a decent price. You may find a good deal here as well as a nice variety.

7. Ebay.
Ebay is a great place to buy used and new costumes. While the newer ones may be costly, you can find gently used ones for typically less than $10 each. This is perfect if you want to snag Disney brand costumes or some of the harder to find costumes as well.

This Halloween, think outside the box. Give these options a try and see how much you can save on Halloween costumes!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
