Easy Ways to stock Healthy Snacks in your kitchen - Avoid junk food by using these easy ways to Keep Healthy Snacks on Hand. These tips will make healthy snacks easy to store and simple to grab.

If you are working on trying to eat healthier, you may wonder what you will snack on since many of the convenient snacks out there are unhealthy. The solution is to make healthy snacks more accessible, easier to store, and simple to grab for everyone in the family. If you make them more like the commercial snacks you can buy for ease of snacking, you are more likely to eat them when you get that little hunger urge in the afternoon. Here are some helpful tips on How to Keep Healthy Snacks on Hand.

Easy Ways to Keep Healthy Snacks on Hand

Cut them up and store them prepared. One of my favorite ways to make healthy snacks on hand is to do the ‘annoying’ part of preparing them so I have no more excuses on why I cant grab one. Some of my favorite things to do are cut up apples and sprinkle them with lemon juice to keep them from browning every couple of days, store cut carrots and celery in water in my fridge and mix up my own healthy trail mix.

Think of ways to give your favorite junk food a healthy makeover. For instance, I love granola bars, but they are usually full of sugar if you buy them. Instead, I make my own. This allows me to control the ingredients and keep them more in line with my healthy eating goals and I am able to save money, too. I also love the crunch of chips as well so I swap them out for these easy to make Kale Chips.

Make it a habit to go shopping a couple of times a week for fresh produce. If you do this, you will find that you and your family might be more likely to eat it since it’s fresher. Most fruits and vegetables taste better when they aren’t overripe. This also allows you to get in on the best sales as well.

Drink your snacks. Smoothies are simple to make and they can really be a great filling snack or meal. If you have 5 minutes, you have time to make a smoothie!

Make your own “convenience” foods. What is it that you like about store bought snacks? They are portioned out and convenient! Make your own snacks this way by portioning them out and setting them in a place that makes them easy to grab. I like to hang an over the door shoe organizer on my pantry door and place portioned out snacks in these sections. You can even make your own reusable snack bags!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
