Living in the pacific northwest, I love avocado season. In many states, avocados are reasonably priced, but here they can cost over a dollar a piece unless it is avocado season. Avocados are one of my favorite things to eat by themselves, on crackers, in salads, and of course, west-mex dishes. The fat in avocados is the good kind of fat so that is perfect for me when I am craving something fattening tasting and savory! Here are some tips for storing and peeling avocados as well as some Craveable Avocado Recipes if they are one of your favorite fruits as well.
How to Peel an Avocado
Start by making sure you have a ripe fruit. You will know because it will be soft, but firm a bit. Too soft and it’s over-ripe. Cut the fruit in half and remove the seed with a spoon. Use a large spoon to scoop the fruit away from the peel and slice.
How to Store Fresh Avocado
If you have already cut-up avocado and want to store it without browning, follow this simple trick: place it in a plastic container and place plastic wrap over the top and press the plastic wrap over it so it is touching the avocado well. This keeps air out and keeps your avocados fresh. Also, make sure you check out 7 Clever Uses for Avocados if you have any leftover!
