Memories of fall always bring to mind sticky and sweet caramel apples, but this upscale Chocolate Sunflower Seed Caramel Apple is a perfect choice that will please kids and adults alike. Chocolate sunflower seeds are a favorite special snack, but when you add them as a fun crunchy coating to a classic caramel apple they are amazing. There is nothing like the saltiness of the sunflower seeds coupled with the rich chocolate, sweet caramel, and tart apples.
Chocolate Sunflower Seed Caramel Apples Recipe
These chocolate sunflower seed covered caramel apples take just one extra step to create, but it is well worth it when you see the smiles on the faces of your family while they devour them!
Ingredients:
- 4 Jonagold Apples (or whatever variety you prefer)
- 2 Bags of Caramel Squares
- 1 Cup of Chocolate Covered Sunflower Seeds
- 1/2 Cup Milk
Supplies:
- 4 Popsicle Sticks or Skewers
- Wax Paper
Directions:
- Rinse and dry apples
- Remove the stem and insert the Popsicle stick.
- Use enough wax paper to accommodate four apples.
- In a medium-sized sauce pot, melt 2 bags of caramels over medium heat. Stir in milk gradually. Only add enough to loosen the caramel.
- When the caramel is melted, hold onto the Popsicle stick and dip apples into the melted caramel. Place dipped apples on the wax paper.
- Set the caramel-covered apples in the refrigerator and allow them to cool for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from fridge. Press the chocolate-covered sunflower seeds into the caramel-covered apples.
- Place them back into the refrigerator to allow the caramel and sunflower seeds to fully set.

Yum! Looks good. I’d never known about candy coated chocolate sunflower seeds until I saw them in Trader Joe’s last month when I was in Oregon. We don’t have Trader Joe’s in Canada. So I bought them. How could I resist! And now I know what I can do with them! I love candy apples. I also noticed that Amazon Canada has these candy coated sunflower seeds for sale, but a different brand.
