My family loves candied nuts. I love how easy they are to make! They make a lovely and delicious gift for friends and neighbors at the holidays. One of the things I like about giving them as a food gift is that they are easy to package. You don’t have to worry about cutting evenRead More

November 28, 2011 by Alea Milham 6 Comments

Beth from A Word From Aunt B is sharing a delicious Haystacks Recipe: My mom was great at making Christmas.  She found all sorts of holiday activities for us kids. Homemade Turtle Fudge

November 27, 2011 by Alea Milham 10 Comments

This is a decadent variation on traditional chocolate fudge. This recipe make 4 1/2 pounds total, so it could easily be divided between 2 gift tins. I used my Easy Homemade Fudge Recipe as the base and then added melted caramels and pecans in the center and topped it with another layer of fudge. This recipeRead More

November 22, 2011 by Alea Milham 4 Comments

Today I shared my recipe for my Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole which is a delicious way to repurpose leftover mashed potatoes. It is also a great way to salvage your mashed potatoes if you accidentally made them too runny. Since I have potatoes on my mind, I thought I would share a few more mashed potato tips and aRead More

Purple Mashed Potatoes

November 22, 2011 by Alea Milham 3 Comments

This is a fun twist on traditional mashed potatoes. I have found blue potatoes to be quite hardy and enjoy growing them in my garden. Whenever I share them with my friends they ask what blue potatoes taste like. Blue potatoes taste like potatoes, only a little more so. If you usually eat bland russet potatoes, youRead More

Barbecued Beef Stuffed Potatoes

November 21, 2011 by Alea Milham 4 Comments

I often make pulled pork or barbecue beef when my children host a game party. It is an easy, throw it in the slow cooker and forget it meal. I always make a lot because I never know how many people will show up or which teenage boys will be going through a growth spurtRead More

Cookies and Cream Fudge

November 2, 2011 by Alea Milham 9 Comments

My oldest son’s favorite flavor is cookies and cream. It doesn’t matter if it ice-cream, cake, or candy. I know that if cookies and cream is an option, it is the one he will take.  He might occasionally take a few minutes considering all of his options, but inevitably he will choose cookies and cream.Read More

Rapidly Roasted Pot Roast and Vegetables

October 31, 2011 by Alea Milham 4 Comments

I came down with a stomach flu on Thursday evening. I know this is a totally unappetizing way to start a post, but if you will hang with me I promise not to overshare. It was the worst flu I have ever experienced. Stick with me, I promise, no gory details. I didn’t eat on Friday orRead More

October 20, 2011 by Alea Milham 7 Comments

There are a few things that my husband and I do not agree on: Who is the better poet: Walt Whitman or Dr. Seuss? Was Lincoln really the best president EVER? Should steak be served with some pink or burnt to a crisp? I cannot tell you how many times we have been about toRead More

Quick and Easy Red Clover Tea Recipe - How to make red clover tea using fresh clover blossoms from your lawn.

Red Clover Tea Recipe

October 9, 2011 by Alea Milham 3 Comments

You can use clover flowers to make this red clover tea recipe. My husband would prefer a weed-free lawn, but indulges my desire to allow the dandelions and clover to coexist with the grass. We do not put chemicals on our lawn, so that we may enjoy our weeds. 🙂 Red clover is a sourceRead More

Chai Spiced French Toast

October 6, 2011 by Alea Milham 6 Comments

When I am out with my 4 year old, people often tell me to “enjoy this time because they grow up so fast”. I just smile and say that I will. I know the years fly by because my oldest child is 21, but I also know that there are days that feel like an eternityRead More

September 27, 2011 by Alea Milham 6 Comments

This evening I shared my recipe for Minestrone Casserole on $5 Dinners. Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
