If you have decided to jump on the keto bandwagon, you might be wondering if there are any ways to make the journey a little bit easier, these 7 Keto Diet Tips for Beginners can get you on the right track.

7 Keto Diet tips for beginners

While it may seem daunting at first, the keto diet can be “hacked” through via some simple tips that can help you lose weight while feeling in control. Read these tips on how to get started on the keto diet and look below at these 7 Keto Tips For Beginners to help you achieve keto success, so you can reap all the benefits of keto while simplifying the process and feeling ahead of the curve!

7 Keto Diet Tips For Beginners

1. Stock up on staples.

One of the easiest ways to stay on track is to stock up on the keto friendly staples you can eat. Print out this Keto Diet Food List and keep it on hand as a reminder of which foods are allowed on the ketogenic diet. This will prevent you from eating items you shouldn’t. Some keto staples include eggs, bacon, coconut oil, high-fat meats and cheeses, celery, asparagus,  shredded cheese, olives, and pickles. Keeping these items close means you are ready when your stomach rumbles.

2. Know your fast food options.

The nice thing is there are all sorts of fast food restaurants offering keto friendly options. Look at menus ahead of time and know what you can have before you go. This way, you don’t give in and order something that you know you shouldn’t eat! If you are in a bind, remember bunless sandwiches are always a great start.

3. Prep ahead of time.

Having some of your favorite keto friendly foods ready to go can help with mindless snacking. Some of the items you should keep prepped ahead of time include hard-boiled eggs, sliced lunch meat and cheeses, cooked bacon and sliced vegetables. You can even dry fruits and vegetables in the oven or food dehydrator ahead of time so you have “chips” on hand.

4. Join a support group.

Facebook is full of Keto support groups where you can learn new tips, exchange recipes, share your issues, and get helpful advice. Do a search for keto support groups, keto diet groups, or keto recipe groups. Then, use these groups to get info and support.

5. Stock up on recipes.

The keto diet requires you to try new to your recipes that are more keto friendly. If you don’t know of many keto-friendly recipes off hand, this Keto Diet Meal Plan or Pinterest can be a great place to start. Look up keto recipes and pin them or print them out so you have them on hand when you create a menu plan. Print this blank Keto Diet Meal Plan to create a menu with your favorite keto-friendly recipes. This way, you can learn some new recipes which may turn into tried and true favorites. 6. Try fasting.

Fasting is an important element of the keto diet. Try cutting off foods after 7 or 8 pm and don’t eat again until morning. This way, you go a good 10-12 hours without eating. Your body will appreciate this time to catch up, and you will feel better when you wake up each morning! Your body wants to sleep when you do, not digest food. So try fasting starting in the early evening and see how it helps. <

7. EAT often.

The keto diet means you get to EAT OFTEN! When trying keto, try for 6-7 small meals per day instead of 3 large meals. Your body will have an easier time digesting these meals, and you won’t go all day feeling hungry. Feeling hungry and deprived between meals can lead to binging and mindless snacking, so stick to 5-6 small meals and see how much better you feel. Here are 20 Keto Diet Snack Recipes to keep you on track.

Are you ready to give keto a try? Consider these 7 hacks to help you achieve keto success and see if they don’t make a difference!

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
