Go ahead; you can finally breathe. The holidays are winding down and by now, life is getting back into the normal swing of things. Looking around your house, you may see that the holidays took a toll on your space, though, as well as your budget. It can be exhausting to think about, but for smoother sailing, it’s good to get things organized after the holiday hustle and bustle is over. Tips for Decluttering Your Home After the Holidays
First, I walk through the house with a trash bag and collect anything that should be discarded. With my husband and kids wrapping presents in secret around the house and then them removing presents from the packaging through out the house, I find quite a bit that can be tossed. I keep several of the larger boxes that Christmas presents arrived in and use them to create donation boxes as we’re decluttering.
Gift Wrap
Do you still have gift bags and bows sitting out? Here are some Tips for Organizing your Gift Wrap so you can get it put away as well as make it easier to use in the future. I do a search for all the scissors and tape dispensers around the house and decided which go back in desks and which are included with the gift wrap. It’s okay to let some of those gift bags and bows that have been used for 5+ years and are little raggedy go! Just add them to that big trash bag instead of letting them take up space in your gift wrap closet.
One In, One Out
I try to do a one in, one out rule. So for every item we brought into our home over Christmas, I try to find at least one thing that we can donate. Use these Tips for Clearing Out Clutter to help get rid of stuff you no longer use and make room for the things you acquired this year.

However, the win of decluttering the foyer or clearing off the dining room table, spurs you on to continue decluttering other areas.
Clothing and Closets
Did you receive new clothing or clutter your room with discarded clothing while trying to find the perfect outfit for the holiday party? Don’t forget the Cars
After all the running around over the holidays, your car could probably use a bit of help. Grab a grocery bag and remove any trash. Load everything that doesn’t belong in the car inside in a laundry basket. Have everyone claim their items and immediately put them where they belong.
