8 Ways to Thicken Your Hair Naturally- Dealing with thin hair is no fun. Here are 8 ways to naturally thicken your hair without spending an arm and a leg!

Ways to Thicken Your Hair Naturally

Dealing with thin hair is no fun! Using conventional shampoos can leave your hair looking flat, thin, and weighed down. Check out these awesome ways to thicken your hair naturally, and without spending an arm and a leg!

Head to the Kitchen…

You’ll be amazed at how many ways you can thicken your hair with ingredients found right in your kitchen!

Eggs. Take one or two eggs, beat them together, and apply on your wet hair. Allow the eggs to sit in your hair for about 30 minutes. Wash with lukewarm water and shampoo. Use once a week.

Olive oil. While olive oil is known to add body to your hair, it also helps to strengthen and thicken it. Massage your scalp and hair with warm olive oil. Let it sit for about 30 minutes, then rinse it with lukewarm water and shampoo. If your hair is in major need of repair, leave the olive oil on over night. You can do this up to twice each week.

Honey. I’ve always been amazed at how versatile honey is! Mix olive oil with honey and apply it to your hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes, and rinse. Use once a week.

Baking soda. Use baking soda instead of shampoo to wash your hair. While most shampoos will leave residue behind in your locks, baking soda doesn’t! Mix 4 tablespoons baking soda and 1/2 to 3/4 cup water together. Baking soda will help remove the built up residue that shampoo has left behind, while helping your hair look thicker almost immediately.

Apple Cider Vinegar. Wash your hair, then pour 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar over your scalp and hair as a rinse. Do not rinse the vinegar out. Use a microfiber towel to dry your hair as usual – patting instead of rubbing, when possible. This will instantly give you more volume!

Avocado. Make an avocado and banana mask by mixing equal parts banana and avocado in a bowl. Massage into your hair and scalp, cover for 15 minutes, and wash out with shampoo.

Coconut oil. Warm 3 tablespoons coconut oil and massage into your scalp. Wrap your hair with a warm towel and leave on for 20 minutes before washing your hair. Coconut oil makes your hair thicker and shiny, but not greasy-looking.

Mayonnaise. Apply mayo to your hair and let it sit for 15 minutes. Mayonnaise helps moisturize and strengthen your locks, which will help thicken them as well. Shampoo and rinse well, as left over mayo in the hair will weigh it down and make it look oily.

It doesn’t really matter. It may depend on how long your hair is. I would suggest, get a small amount, apply that first. Then, if you feel like you need more, apply more until you’re satisfied. But don’t overdue it. Trust me, your hair will be very oily if you put too much.

I’ve used the egg and baking soda ideas. I’ve used each only once, and I can say, about the baking soda, that my hair looked amazing after drying it and styling it! I tend to have oily hair, which is greasy by the end of the day, but it’s now about 12:30am, and it still looks great! Haven’t done the egg one enough to see a difference of course, but I am excited to see what the results are!

Ive used greek yogurt and aloevera, leavung it in for 30mins. It was an instant volumiser and softened my hair. I have frizzy curly hair so I think continuous use might lead to eventual moisturising. But its cheapp and decent 🙂

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
