Sweet Potato Egg Puffs

September 28, 2010 by Alea Milham 10 Comments

This sweet potato egg puffs recipe is a healthy, low-carb alternative to muffins. Have you ever had an egg puff? They are baked in ramekins or muffin tins. They are like a light and fluffy muffin only much higher in protein. Many egg puffs can be like mini quiches, but since this recipe includes sweetRead More

This week I feel like we are eating really well for very little! My garden is still chugging along producing organic vegetables for my family. On Thursday, two of my children and I came down with the stomach flu that my husband and oldest son had over labor day weekend. It was quite debilitating! I would like to thank Rebecca from Turned Loose for coming to my rescue and sharing a post on Friday. If you haven’t had a chanceRead More

My Vegetable Garden: A Labor of Love

September 19, 2010 by Alea Milham 6 Comments

Yesterday, I shared how being a lazy gardener is both frugal and green. However, there are some things that I find putting a little effort into pays great dividends, namely my vegetable garden. I finally captured an eggplant flower! Since the eggplant is still flowering and because it does not like cold, I am addingRead More

The Lazy Way to Prepare your Yard for Fall

September 17, 2010 by Alea Milham 10 Comments

Some of you may not be ready to discuss the impending change of season.  However, it is just around the corner; I already have leaves that are beginning to change color. Autumn is the when, whether you realize it or not, you lay the foundation for next year’s garden. It sounds like a lot ofRead More

Turned Loose on Food Waste

September 17, 2010 by Alea Milham 5 Comments

Today my friend Rebecca from Turned Loose is sharing her experiences with minimizing food waste in her kitchen. She tackles this subject, as she does most others, with a combination of insight and humor. My friend, Alea, frequently participates in Food Waste Friday… documenting with some rather unappetizing photos sometimes. It’s often amusing to hear her storiesRead More

September 17, 2010 by Alea Milham 10 Comments

When I shared my Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Cauliflower recipe, Alison at A Prairie Story left a comment saying that she liked combining sweet potatoes with beets. I did not think I could get away with serving my kids sweet potatoes with beets, so I decided to add a little camouflage, call it roasted rootRead More

Gluten-Free Herbed Bread Sticks and Dipping Sauce

September 16, 2010 by Alea Milham 3 Comments

My resolution for this year was to use up a jar of yeast and a bag of xanthan gum before they expired. This might be the first resolution that I have ever kept! I have been having fun playing with pizza dough. Yesterday, I tried my hand at bread sticks. I slightly modified my GarlicRead More

September 15, 2010 by Alea Milham 6 Comments

Last Friday I made my Triple Chocolate Cake for a party that we hosted. It is so easy that it is my go-to cake when I am feeling pressed for time. I can rely on it to turn out perfectly every single time I make it… Except this time! When I turned it out ofRead More

Gluten-Free Sweet Potato Muffins

September 14, 2010 by Alea Milham Leave a Comment

You would think that after I made 5 batches of Sweet Potato Donuts and a large batch of Sweet Potato Pancakes that my kids would be tired of Sweet Potatoes, but the requests for sweet potatoes keep coming in. My daughter wants me to try replacing sweet potatoes in all of my pumpkin recipes. SinceRead More

Radish Leaf Soup

September 14, 2010 by Alea Milham 15 Comments

Radish leaves are edible! I was surprised when I first learned this because the leaves are fuzzy; they didn’t seem like anything I would want to add to my salad! Even knowing that they are edible has not convinced me to add them to my salad, but I do cook with them. They work reallyRead More

Easy Cucumber Sandwiches

September 11, 2010 by Alea Milham 1 Comment

There are many great cucumber sandwich recipes for feeding a crowd. The problem is that since the recipes are intended to make a lot of sandwiches, we tend to only serve them when there is a crowd instead of enjoying them on a daily basis. Below is an easy recipe for one cucumber sandwich. YouRead More

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
