Frugal Spring Decorating Ideas

It may still be cold and slushy, but Spring will be here soon!  I am ready to anticipate spring and start decorating. We have had a few unexpected expenses so far this year, so our budget is a little tight and there isn’t much room in it for decorative items. However, when I am determined, I can stretch a few dollars pretty far! Below are some easy ways to decorate your home for spring on a budget!

Frugal Spring Decorating Ideas

Bring Flowers and Greenery in from your Yard
By now, buds are beginning to appear on some of your plants and trees around your home. You can combine yard work and decorating by bringing some of the clippings from trees and bushes and using them to fill vases. Add a few bright tulips to the budding branches to create an elegant centerpiece. You can also start your herb garden inside to add some usable greenery to your home.

Upcycle and Repurpose
Look around and see if there are any items around your home that you can use. An empty wine bottle or old glass jar can be used as a vase. A bright green Christmas table cloth can make a dramatic backdrop for yellow daffodils. You can also place your lemons and oranges in a pretty bowl on the table and use them as a centerpiece.

Visit the Dollar Store
Your local dollar store should have some lovely spring decorative items, pastel candles, and silk flowers. You can buy a few things from the Dollar Store to place around your home. You don’t need a lot of decorations, just a few well-placed decorations on your mantel and a floral arrangement will add some Spring cheer to your home.

Check Out Your Thrift Shop
Even if your thrift stores doesn’t have specific décor items for Spring, you should be able to find some pieces to use to brighten your home. Look in linens for a cheerful table cloth or place mats. In housewares, you will find some attractive vases and candle sticks.   You can group several small vases of different heights to create an attractive centerpiece with cuttings from your yard. Keep an open mind and think outside the box because you never know what the thrift store will have in stock. An old tea pot can be used as a vase to hold tulips or a glass vase can be filled with jelly beans.

Create Your Own Spring Decorations
You can often make your own decorations for a fraction of the cost of buying them. There are quite a few spring decor tutorials available on the web. Look for DIY Spring decor ideas that use items you already have on hand to save even more money. You can find some ideas with these 15 DIY Spring Decorations or these Flower Crafts.

Display Your Kid’s Crafts
Not Martha? If you really don’t like doing craft projects, then let your kids do the decorating!  Display your kids’ spring craft projects that they bring come home from school around your home. Your friends and family will enjoy seeing your children’s art work and your kids will take pride in their contribution to your home decor.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
