Frugal Valentine’s Day Party Ideas

Make Your Own Cards

Most of the time you can find Valentine Day cards at a pretty affordable price. But, maybe you don’t want to spend money on store-bought cards or you want something different from what everyone else has. Making your own Valentine Day cards is a fun and frugal way to get creative with Valentine’s Day. A simple Google search will give you an endless supply of DIY Valentine Day card tutorials. In most cases you will need paper, scissors, crayons, markers, glue and maybe some stickers to create the perfect Valentine Day card. Get your children involved and make this a family activity.

Skip the Holiday Themed Candy

Holiday themed candy looks nice but it’s not always the most affordable option. In fact holiday themed candy is typically over-priced! Instead of picking up a bag of chocolate that is decorated in pink and red go for the traditional everyday candy. This is an easy option that can save you at least 30% if not more. If skipping the Valentine Day candy isn’t something you are willing to do that is okay as well. Instead of shopping for your candy at grocery stores, Target, or Walmart, look at your local Dollar Store or CVS Pharmacy. The Dollar Store and pharmacies often have better prices than the big box stores.

Make Your Own Decorations

Every good party needs decorations but not at the cost of going over budget. Thankfully, Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that is extremely easy to decorate for. Candles, candy, balloons and flowers are all some of the ways you can decorate your Valentine’s Day party. When decorating for your Valentine’s Day party make sure to keep your budget in mind. When shopping for candles go to places like The Dollar Store, Wal-Mart and other discount stores. You do not need to purchased fancy or overly expensive candles. The same goes with candy, balloons and flowers. If you want to decorate your party with flowers skip the roses and go for more non-traditional bouquets. Not only will a non-traditional bouquet save you money but they add a touch of personalization to any party!

When planning your Valentine’s Day party menu make sure to create a budget, shop with coupons and ask friends and family to bring a dish.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
