Q is Quirky! There are some fun ways to teach this letter, though! Here are 10 crafts, recipes, activities and more ways to introduce the letter Q!

When I was a kid, the letter Q was one of my favorite letters to write. I loved it when we got to cursive and I got to get all creative with the tail on the lowercase Q. If you are looking for some fun ways to teach this “Quirky” letter, here are some great crafts, recipes, activities and other ways to introduce the letter Q.

10 Ways to Introduce the Letter Q

Crafts:

Make Quails from Feathers like Rainbows Within Reach did.

Do Q-Tip Painting. There are many ways you can do this, as it is technically just Pointillism style painting, but this fun Fall Tree from Mess for Less looks great for little ones.

Printables:

Homeschool Helper Online has a great Q Tracing Page printable. You kids trace the letters, both uppercase and lower as well as identify images with the letter.

More Coloring Pages has a good Fill in the Blank Page for the letter Q.

Activities:

Q is for Quicksand! This fun outdoor activity using sand from Preschool Powel Packets is a great one for sensory play. Here is one that uses cornstarch from Memorizing the Moments for indoor play.

Books:

The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Dewalt

The Quilt that Gave a Hug by Phyllis Kaldenburg

Quack and Count by Keith Baker

If I Were Queen of the World by Mark Graham

Recipes:

Quesadillas are easy to make and can be fully customizable. Make it a meal by adding some black beans, chicken or onions as well!

Make some Cheddar Bacon Quiche! This is great because it’s a frugal recipe, but also because it helps your child understand the soft Q sound!

More fun with the letter Q:

If you have a girl, let her be “Queen for a day” (or at least a couple of hours). Let her pick out what you make for lunch and what game you play, for instance. Add a crown for fun.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
