Even if you have taken every precaution to create a moist and tender turkey, the meat can still dry out fairly fast after it has been cut. Nobody enjoys dry turkey! And it seems like such a waste to spend hours preparing the perfect Thanksgiving dinner to cut into a dry piece of meat. Use the tips below to prevent the sliced turkey from drying out and keep the uncut turkey moist.

How to Keep Turkey Moist

To prevent your sliced turkey from drying out, start by only cutting what you need. Cover the turkey slices with foil or plastic wrap to keep them warm and tender until getting ready to serve the meat.

Just before bringing the turkey to the table, drizzle the slices with a little bit of the turkey drippings or homemade turkey gravy. This will keep your sliced turkey warm and help keep the sliced meat moist.

Instead of cutting all of the turkey into slices, cut only what you need. Leave the remaining turkey uncut and tightly covered.

Then go back and cut additional slices as you need more turkey. Then drizzle more drippings or gravy over the cut slices and recover the remaining uncut turkey.

Repeat as necessary. Your guests won’t object to you leaving for a few minutes to slice more turkey, especially if it means the turkey you bring back will still be tender and moist.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
