If you are teaching the alphabet and doing the letter R, here are some fun ways to introduce the letter R through crafts, recipes, books and activities.

I had a great time compiling this list for fun ways to teach the letter R this week. Among the letters, it is also another favorite of mine. I am not sure how a person has favorite letters, but I certainly do! The letter R was a pretty easy one for me to find fun crafts, activities, recipes and books for, the problem was sorting through and picking my favorites! So here they are!

10+ Ways to Introduce the Letter R

Crafts:

“R” is for rocket and No Time for Flashcards has a very nice Rocket Craft using toilet paper roll tubes. What a great way to use throw away materials.

Learning 4 Kids has a fun Making Rain Craft that helps them learn a little about rain as well as make their own “rain”.

Printables:

This Itsty-Bitsy Book from Kidzone is great for coloring, teaching and for practicing things like using safety scissors as well.

For practicing writing and tracing the letter R, check out this Letter R Worksheet from Daycare Worksheets.

Outdoor/Indoor Fun:

This Pool Noodle Racetrack from Ramblings from Utopia looks like it would be a blast to make and play with even inside!

Why not go on a Rock Hunt like Preschool Alphabet did? This is a great activity even when the weather is a bit chilly outside. You can take your rocks inside and pain them, even!

Books:

A Rainbow of my Own by Don Freeman

Raccoon on His Own by Jim Arnosky

Rabbits, Rabbits, Everywhere by Ann McCallum

Rain! by Linda Ashman

Recipes:

This Rainbow Swirl Bread by Girl Verses Dough via Tablespoon is so awesome! Your kids will be amazed when the bread comes out of your oven!

For a little science mixed with letter R fun, make your own Rock Candy at home with this how-to from Paging Fun Mums.

More Fun with the Letter R:

If you plan on doing any sensory play this week, forget rainbow rice and do Rainbow Oats like And Next Comes L does!

I really like this Letter R sensory bin from A Mom With a Lesson Plan, too.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
