Are you stuck on activities to teach the letter X? Here are 10+ ways to introduce the letter X with crafts, food and activities!

I have to say, this has been the hardest list of ideas of all the letters in the alphabet to put together so far. I fear that the hardest one may be the letter Z! However, I was extremely determined to put this one together as a separate post because I think all the letters of the alphabet are important to teach our children and X is no exception! I also believe that since it was so challenging to put together, it probably means others are having a hard go of it as well, so it was even more important to do it and do it well. So if you are on the letter X in your home schooling curriculum and are stumped, here are at least 10 ideas to help you get started!

10+ Ways to Introduce the Letter X

Crafts:

Evolving Motherhood has a really cute paper craft for a Xylophone on her site. I like how she added the sticks in!

Use q-tips to create this really neat X-Ray craft from City Teacher Goes Country.

Printables:

Boggle’s World has some great Printable Letter X tracing sheets and coloring sheets.

Kid’s Learning Station has a letter and picture recognition sheet you can print for free.

Activities:

Why not play some fun educational games on your XBOX if you have one?

Have your child play a toy xylophone Xylophone. Have your child listen to the different tones each key makes.

Books:

A Fox: The Sound of X by Alice K. Flanagan

Jessica’s X-Ray by Pat Zonta

My Mom Has X-Ray Vision by Angela McAllister

Xavier Ox’s Xylophone Experiment by Barbara deRubertis

Recipes:

The Beautiful Thrifty Life just took “stick foods” (like carrot sticks, potato straws, etc.) and formed them into X’s on plates. She also has some other great ideas for X week.

This Letter X Bento Box is a GREAT idea from Cookie Cutter Lunch.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
