Do you love peanut butter? If so, you will love this peanut butter doughnuts recipe! I have topped them with a chunky peanut butter glaze that makes them of, so peanut buttery!

Peanut Butter Doughnuts Recipe with Chunky Peanut Butter Glaze on a white plate

Last month when I was looking for peanut butter doughnut recipes, I kept finding chocolate doughnuts with peanut butter glaze. I thought I couldn’t be the only one who truly wanted a peanut butter doughnut, so I decided to create a recipe for donuts that would actually use peanut butter in the ingredients, not just in the glaze.

My family loved this peanut butter doughnut recipe. I topped them with a peanut butter glaze that is made with chunky peanut butter so we could get our peanut butter fix!

You can bake these doughnuts in doughnut pans in the oven or make them in an electric donut maker. This recipe makes 12 doughnuts using doughnut pans or 15 doughnuts using a donut maker. You can use creamy peanut butter or do as I did and use crunchy peanut butter for both the doughnuts and the icing.

Peanut Butter Doughnuts Recipe

Yield: 10 – 15 donuts or more if you make mini doughnuts
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 12 – 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

1. If using the oven preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease doughnut pans if baking your doughnuts. If using a donut maker, preheat your donut maker.

2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and baking powder together.

3. Add the peanut butter, milk, eggs, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed just until mixed.

4a. Oven Directions: Fill the donut pans 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 – 15 minutes or until tops are brown and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

4b. Donut Maker Directions: Fill the bottom portion of the donut maker until it is just full. Close the lid and cook for 7 minutes or until your donut maker indicates that they are done and they appear lightly browned and cooked through.

5. Place the donut pans on cooling rack and let the doughnuts cool in the pans.

6. Once the doughnuts are cool, spoon the peanut butter glaze over the top using the recipe below.

Chunky Peanut Butter Glaze Recipe:

I like to make my peanut butter glaze a little fluffier than other glazes, so more of that delicious icing stays on top. I make it a little thicker than a glaze, but thinner than a frosting, so I get a little bit of the peanut butter glaze dripping down the sides, but not so much that it rolls off the doughnut and on to the pan below.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup chunky peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2  cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

Add peanut butter and butter to a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave for 30 seconds or until the butter is melted and the peanut butter is softened.

Stir the powdered sugar into the peanut butter mixture. Add the vanilla. Slowly stir in the milk until you reach your desired consistency.

Place wax paper or baking sheet beneath cooling rack. Spoon the glaze over the doughnuts.

Just wanted to add the recipe calls for 1/2 cup flour. I thought that was a little low and the batter looked pretty runny so I added another cup of flour. The donuts turned out pretty good. Maybe a little dry but not overly. I’m not sure if I should have left the recipe as is with batter runny but I was worried it wouldn’t set up or have enough for 12 donuts. Maybe someone else can weigh in if they tried the recipe as written.

Oh yum! Thanks for this recipe. It looks like that glaze could handle a few chocolate sprinkles on top. You know, for chocolate peanut butter lovers like myself!

Loving the sound of that chunky, crunchy glaze. The perfect partner to those soft, pillow doughnuts.
