Rice Krispie treats are an easy treat that kids love. Here’s how to make Rice Krispie treats, plus 17 delicious Rice Krispie treat recipes for every season.

Basic Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

Rice Krispie treats are a classic recipe that just about every kid has tried. They work well for bake sales, birthday parties, and packed school lunches. My mom used to make peanut butter ones when I was a kid and I loved them so much. I thought I was super special because most other kids moms just made plain old regular ones. These days, thanks to technology, there are a plethora of moms out there making and sharing delicious twists on this classic treat. Here are some incredible Rice Krispie Treat Recipes.

How to Make Rice Krispie Treats

Making Rice Krispie Treats is pretty easy, but these tips will make it easier.

  • Lining the baking dish will make it easier to pull out the Rice Krispie Treats and cut them into squares of shapes. If you line your pan with foil instead of parchment paper, spray the foil with oil, so the treats do not stick to the foil.
  • Don’t wait until the marshmallows are completely melted to fold in the Rice Krispies. Add the cereal when the marshmallows are 3/4 melted.
  • If you use cookie cutters to cut the Rice Krispie Treats into shapes, make sure the treats are completely chilled and firm. This will make it easier to cut the treats and ensures the treats will retain their shape.

Basic Rice Krispie Treats Recipe

Makes approximately 12 servings

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal (off brand works great too!)
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into chunks

Directions:

1. Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment, wax paper, or foil.

2. Add the mini marshmallows and butter to a large saucepan or dutch oven and heat on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.

3. Once the mixture is about 3/4 melted, fold in the Rice Krispie cereal until it is completely coated.

Fold the rice krispies into the melted marshmallows and butter.

4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and gently press down.

Press Rice Krispie Treats into a 9 x 13 pan then refrigerate for 30 minutes.

5. Place the Rice Krispie Treats in the fridge for 30 minutes.

6. Cut into squares and serve.

You can use some of the ideas below for shapes to cut the Rice Krispie Treats into.

Welcome. I'm Alea!

On Premeditated Leftovers I share simple recipes made with whole foods, practical shopping tips, time saving techniques, and meal planning strategies. I also share tips for minimizing food waste, so more of the food that is purchased ends up on the table.

While volunteering as a budget counselor, I realized that food is the element of most people’s budgets where they have the greatest control. I set out to develop low-cost recipes from scratch to prove it’s possible to create delicious meals on a limited budget. Eating well while spending less is about more than just creating recipes using inexpensive ingredients; it’s about creatively combining ingredients so you don’t feel deprived and are inspired to stick to your budget.
